Charles Spence

Charles Spence (came home) ........... he was my paternal grandfather.
He was born in 1886, in Collyhurst, Manchester and died in January 1960.
He enlisted in Manchester, December 1915, at the age of 28 and was placed in the Army Reserve.
He was eventually mobilised for Active Service, as a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, in August 1917 and posted to Fort Brockhurst, Gosport, Hampshire.
On 12th January 1918 he embarked at Southampton for Le Havre, in France.
He returned home, via the dispersal unit at Purfleet, in January 1919.
