CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION IN WW1

William Mullin

Oldham Tribunal 8 March 1916
Reported Oldham Chronicle 11 March 1916

More claims for exemption from service on the ground of a conscientious objection against war service were heard on Wednesday …

William Mullin of 108 King-street, Oldham, a watchman and window cleaner, claimed exemption on the grounds of a conscientious objection to war and also that taking him away would break up his home and business. He is single and the head of a family of 14. He said he would rather put the stress on the business side of the claim though he thought both were good. He did not see that he should be penalised because he was single and humiliated by having to come here.

Alderman Middleton: It is not a humiliation to come before us! (Laughter)

Temporary exemption to June 1st.
