If you believe that you have any material, relating to events or people in the Oldham area (Oldham, Royton, Chadderton, Crompton, Saddleworth and Failsworth), from 1914 - 1918 and the War, that can be scanned or photographed and you are willing to allow us to include them on this website then we would love to hear from you.
If you need more information or have any questions then please just email me first and I will do my best to help ()

The items we would be most interested in including would be:

Photos (from the war years) :
Of soldiers, sailors, airmen and other personnel, with their names and any known details eg., town lived in, date of birth, their war service, decorations, etc.
Of women who served in the war zones, nursing or iin other capacitites, again with their names, occupations and any other details for eg., locations.
Of local events, fund raising activities, recruitment, men training, setting off or returning etc.
Of foreign locations in battle areas.

Photos :
Of souvenirs, memorabilia, cap badges, medals, ribbons etc.; with any details known.

Postcards from battle zones.

From service men on active service
From Training camps
From official organisations eg. the Red Cross, to individuals or local groups.

Home Front
Local organisations, stories, aid and activities.
Pamphlets, programmes, fund raising etc.

stories and aid work.

Newspaper clippings :
News clippings of anything relating to the war with reference to our district or the people from it.

Ephemara such as hospital transfer forms, passes for leave or travel, tickets for entertainments etc., etc.

ANYTHING that we have missed and you think would be of interest!

After we receive your email we would then reply, as soon as possible, in order to find the best means of making copies of your material available for our use.

If you have a scanner, we would probably ask you to send scanned copies of items or photos. as highest quality .jpgs, scanned at 300dpi, These can then either be attached to an email or sent via on-line storage such as 'Dropbox'.

We would also be more than happy to receive the images and information as printed copies or as highest quality .jpgs (or .tiffs) on a cd. They can be sent by post or left at the Local Studies and Archives (Address on the home page), and addressed, 'Care of Roger Ivens, for the attention of Sheila Goodyear, Oldham Historical Research Group'.

If you live locally and prefer to bring items into the Local Studies & Archives, for scanning by us, this can be arranged.

Where appropriate, on the website, small images will link to larger copies in order to show details of text, decoration etc.

All images used on the website will be attributed to the contributor.

If you are also willing to give permission for digital contributions to be passed on to the Oldham Local Studies and Archives, for their use, then a form to that effect can be found HERE and can be returned attached to an email addressed to .

We have made a start and you can see the menu page for the Project, HERE
