Newspaper obituary:

"Mrs Lane, of 25, Frank Street, Oldham, received information on Tuesday that her second son, Private Joseph Thomas Lane, Manchester Regiment, was wounded on July 2nd and died the day following. He was 19 years of age. He enlisted on January 24 this year and had been in France six months. Before the war he was employed at the Orme Ring Mill as warehouse clerk. He was an old Bluecoat Boy. His brother, John William, is serving with the 1/10 Manchester Regiment in Egypt. He went through the Gallipoli campaign and was slightly wounded and afterwards contracted fever being sent to hospital at Woolwich."
