Newspaper obituary:

"Rifleman W. Travers (13557), King's Royal Rifles, died on June 30th, of wounds received in action five days earlier. He resided with his sisters at 50, Cobden Street, Chadderton. A letter received from the sister at the base hospital where he died and dated July 1st is as follows:-

I regret having to write to tell you that your brother, Rifleman Travers died yesterday evening. I wrote and told you he was wounded some days ago, and he did not seem to progress very well. Yesterday morning he became worse and passed away in the evening. The cause of death was septic absorption from his wounds. He was such a nice boy and a good patient and I sympathise very much with you in your loss, but you have the consolation that he died a soldier's death and certainly it's the most noble.

Travers was 25 years of age and was a cop packer at the Sun Mill up to his enlistment at Whitsuntide last year. He had been on active service nine months."
