Newspaper obituary:

"Mr Thomas Wade, J.P., of Sedgeley House, Middleton Junction, headmaster of Beever Street Council School, Oldham, received information Sunday that his eldest son, Private Percy Wade, Manchester Regiment, had been killed in action.

Private Wade was educated at the Manchester Grammar School, winning a scholarship when 10 years old, and attending the school for about five years. After leaving school he was articled to the late Mr Frederick Entwistle, Town Clerk, Middleton, and was admitted a solicitor in 1906. For nine years he was deputy town clerk for the borough. He joined the army a month after the outbreak of war, and had just attained his 33rd birthday. Whilst in the army his excellent abilities had frequently been recognised and he refused offers of commissions on several occasions.

The letter received by his father from a captain of the Seaforth Highlanders, intimates that deceased's body was found on the battlefield on July 6th alongside that of his lieutenant, and both had been buried in the same grave.

Private Wade was a well-known Rugby footballer and a regular player in the Oldham Rugby Union team before the war."
