Newspaper obituary:

" Private George O. Ashby, Royal Fusiliers (Public Schools Battalion), machine gun section, was killed in action in France on July 20th. He was 21 years of age, and enlisted very shortly after the outbreak of war. He was the youngest son of Mr Ashby of 172 Coppice Street, Oldham. Before his enlistment he was articled to Mr Ferguson, charter accountant, of Princess Street, Manchester."
