Newspaper obituary:

"Private Edward George Hendy (7823), of the Royal Fusiliers (Public Schools Battalion), was killed in action on July 1st 1916. Hendy was 26 years of age, and was the manager of the Union Street West shop of Messrs James Duckworth Ltd. He enlisted in June of last year and went out to the front in November. He had been recommended for a commission. The deceased was a son of Mr A. W. Hendy, of 48 Hereford Street, Oldham. "
