"Private Ernest Ball (4668), of the Manchester Regiment, was killed in action on July 7th. He was 24 years of age and joined the army at the outbreak of war, having been at the front 14 months. Before enlisting he was a piecer at the Sun Mill, Chadderton, and he resided at 51 Foundry Street, Oldham. "
