Newspaper obituary :

"Private Harold Fitton, Manchester Regiment, whose parents reside at 199 Burnley Lane, Chadderton, was killed in action on July 1st 1916. Fitton was 20 years of age and joined the army five months ago prior to which he was a minder at Coldhurst Mill. He had been at the front six weeks. A letter from a chum of Fitton, conveying the sad news, contains the following:

'I am sorry that he has passed away, but he did his duty as a soldier. He passed away with his hand in mine, and I was wounded about three minutes afterwards. He is buried in a beautiful place here and has a very nice grave made by his comrades."
