Newspaper obituary:

"Mr Edward Grisdale, of 89 Burnley Lane, Chadderton, has been officially informed that his son, Private Fred Grisdale, was killed in action on July 1st. Private Grisdale enlisted in the Border Regiment in August 1914. He was 24 years of age, single, and was well known in the town. He was at the landing at Suvla Bay and went through the Dardanelles campaign. Private Grisdale had previously been wounded in Gallipoli but had never had a leave since his enlistment. Before the war he worked in the moulding department for Messrs Platt Bros. His father is a foreman in the boot and shoe repairing department at Royton Industrial Co-operative Society, and he has a younger son who is in the navy and went through the Jutland battle."
