Newspaper obituary:

"Private E. Mellor, of 43, Siddall Street, Oldham was killed in action on July 1st. He was in one of the grenade companies of the Manchester Pals and enlisted soon after the outbreak of war when he was living at Levenshulme. He was 28 years of age and was employed in the mule spindle department of Messrs. W. Bodden and Son Ltd. He had been out in France over twelve months and only went back to duty a few weeks ago after recovering from shell shock."
