of Salford, in bibles for poor children of Oldham, in woollen cloths for the poor of Oldham, and for an annual sermon at Oldham. A portion of one of the five pound rent charges is payable from this estate, which, on the death of Mr. Haward in 1705, passed by will to his nephew, John Jones, yeoman, and his heirs. It is probable this family of Jones was related to the Joneses, of Pits, in Oldham, ancestors of the Joneses, of Hope House. Joseph Jones, yeoman, possessed lands near Hollins in 1713. A few years ago, Lime House estate was purchased by James Gee, Esq., an opulent hat manufacturer, who rendered the dwelling a neat mansion, now the residence of Mrs. Gee, Mr. Gee having died October 28, 1829.

Copster Hill, contains a commodious old habitation of the Bents. Thomas Bent, of Copster-hill, chapman, who died March 22, 1739, was ancestor of Mr. John Bent, who possessed the place in 1759. His sister, Betty, conveyed the estate, by marriage, to Jonah Harrop, gentleman, of Bardsley, who died May 22, 1814, and was father of Jonah Harrop, Esq., J .P., now of Bardsley, Mrs. Joe Sidebottom, of Harewood Lodge, Mottram, and Mrs. William Sidebottom, of Waterside, Mottram.

Pawletts, adjoining to Hathershaw, was the abode of a family of the same name. James Pawlett, chapman, who died in 1724, caused his father's armorial bearings to be sculptured on his parent's grave stone, in Oldham church yard, in 1723. In 1759 the place was possessed by Isaiah Duncuft, yeoman, who died
