'SERVICEMEN WE KNOW'

 WW1 serviceman

George Howard 375482
1/10th Manchester Regt.
He enlisted in 1914 and saw active service in Egypt, Gallipoli and France.
He suffered gunshot wounds in April 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit in September 1918.
(On the table, propped in front of his helmet, is the family photo seen below.)

George was born in December 1882, to Aaron and Eliza (née Lees)
.In 1891, 8 year old George, with his parents, sister Esther age 11 and sister Elizabeth age 5,
was living on Ogden Street in Chadderton.
By 1901 the family was living on Oldham Road, Limehurst and father Aaron was recorded as a coal miner.
Esther was no longer with them but there was another, younger sister, Annie age 9.
George married Emily Green, in the United Methodist Church, in 1911. Later that year a son, Ernest was born
and in 1913 a second son, George William, was born.
George's father, Aaron, died in January 1916.
George himself died in 1951, in Oldham, age 68.
